Montreal’s The Barr Brothers are pleased to announce details of their new album, ‘Sleeping Operator’, out on 6th October 2014 through Secret City Records. The group, featuring brothers Brad on guitar/vocals and Andrew on drums, classical harpist Sarah Pagé, and pianist/bassist Andrès Vial, recorded 40 tracks in the process of making this record. The 13 songs on ‘Sleeping Operator’ explore the far reaches of folk, laced with West African influences, hypnotic modernist pulsing and beyond. While the record extends into cinematic and other-worldly territories, it maintains a campfire-like intimacy throughout. The album was self-produced and recorded and mixed by Ryan Freeland (Bonnie Raitt, Aimee Mann, Ray Lamontagne) in Montreal and Los Angeles. The band were joined by local neighbourhood guests from Arcade Fire (Richard Reed Parry), Patrick Watson’s band, The Luyas, Bassekou Kouyate’s band and Little Scream along the way. Known for their unique orchestrations, the band used a plethora of instruments to embellish this album including a variety of horns, marimba, ngoni (West African stringed instrument), an instrument made by a fan called a cardboardium, hammered dulcimer, and pedal steel to make a sound that is sui generis. The Barr Brothers recorded their “thrillingly unusual” (Washington Post) and “sacred-sounding” (Rolling Stone) previous, also debut, album in a home-made studio in a Montreal boiler room back in 2011. The record received due acclaim and support from The Late Show with David Letterman, NPR, and found The Barr Brothers sharing stages with the likes of Emmylou Harris and The National.

Medeski Scofield Martin & Wood album, Juice, will be in stores worldwide on September 16, 2014.. The blueprint for Juice was found in a compilation of African-derived music put together by drummer Billy Martin and shared among the ensemble. “We all love music from Brazil, the Caribbean, and Latin America, and it has always been intertwined with jazz,” explains Medeski. “We got together and started exploring that connection in our own way.” “This is our version of different African-based forms,” Scofield echoes. “Or, at least, that’s what we started with…eventually we said, ‘This is the outline, but we can do whatever the hell we want.’”

Prince is set to release two albums on the day next month, one with girl group 3rdEyeGirl and another solo record. The “Kiss” singer will drop his own new effort Art Official Age on 29 September while simultaneously releasing Plectrum Electrum. The tracklist for his solo album has been shared with fans and will include songs such as “Clouds”, “The Gold Standard” and “Breakfast Can Wait”. An “aggressive and menacing” rap song featuring Rita Ora is also expected. The album has been described as “classic Prince” as it has been composed, produced and performed by the musician himself. The psychedelic album sleeve has also been unveiled, showing the 56-year-old wearing space age glasses and a dazzling gold jacket.

Produced by David Gilmour, Martin Glover, Andy Jackson and Phil Manzanera, the album is set to be released by Parlophone and Columbia Records respectively in Friday-release countries on 7 November 2014 and in the United Kingdom on 10 November 2014. The album is the band's first since the death of keyboardist and founding member Richard Wright, who appears posthumously, and the third by the Gilmour-led Pink Floyd after Roger Waters' departure from the band in 1985. The Endless River is also the first studio release by the band to be distributed by Parlophone and Warner Bros. Records, following the purchase of EMI and its assets by the Universal Music Group in 2012, their transfer to Parlophone and the purchase of Parlophone by Warner Bros. in 2013. Described as a "swan song" for Wright, The Endless River mostly comprises instrumental, ambient music, based on twenty hours of unreleased material the band wrote, recorded and produced with him during sessions for The Division Bell in 1993. The album was finished aboard the Astoria, Gilmour's houseboat recording studio, in 2013 and 2014. The cover is by Ahmed Emad Eldin with sleeve design by Stylorouge. Aubrey Powell, served as creative director for the artwork. The Endless River is the band's first studio album since 1994's The Division Bell. Information about the album was initially leaked via social media, after which Pink Floyd made a formal announcement. The news was met with anticipation from fans as well as criticism regarding the absence of Waters on the new project. The band and Parlophone are promoting the album in the lead-up to its release with television advertisements and installations of the album artwork placed in cities around the world, including London, New York, Paris, Berlin and Milan.

Attica! is the 5th album from Cincinnati's Wussy, and the first to be released jointly in the US and UK. These 11 new tracks were recorded with old Afghan Whigs pal John Curley at Cincinnati's legendary Ultrasuede Studios. John Erhardt rejoins forces with former Ass Ponys bandmate Chuck Cleaver as the band's fifth member on some Dark-Side-inspired pedal steel, adding a further psychedelic element to Wussy's ever-developing swirl of noise. Cheek to Cheek is an upcoming collaborative album by American singers Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga, which was originally scheduled to be released on January 1, 2014. Bennett later confirmed in an interview that the release date had been pushed back to March of that year. However, the album was delayed further, and on July 29, 2014 Gaga and Bennett went on The Today Show to announce that the album would be released September 23, 2014. Cheek to Cheek is Bennett's second collaboration with Gaga, the first being a duet of "The Lady Is a Tramp" recorded for his Grammy Award-winning album, Duets II.

Lana Del Rey has shared more details about her new record, Ultraviolence. The follow-up to 2012's Born to Die is expected to arrive this year via Interscope, featuring collaborations with Black Keys frontman Dan Auerbach. The singer has now revealed the tracklist on Facebook. It includes the single "West Coast" as well as some very Lana Del Rey-esque titles: "Fucked My Way Up to the Top", "Money Power Glory", "The Other Woman", etc.
