The Vivid Unknown (2023)

John Fitzgerald
IDFA DocLab Competition for Immersive Non-Fiction What happens when you feed an AI system the groundbreaking 1982 documentary Koyaanisqatsi? Godfrey Reggio’s film, and the mesmerizing accompanying musical score by Philip Glass, hypnotically explored the ever-increasing tension between nature, humans and technology. The Vivid Unknown, co-directed by Reggio and John Fitzgerald, makes a logical and exciting sequel to his Qatsi trilogy. Koyaanisqatsi, released just prior to the birth of the internet, explores the tension between humans—the creators of technology—and nature. With the arrival of AI, the vivid unknown, an era has begun in which technology also shapes the world. Reams have now been written about how AI is set to change our lives, but little is known for certain. This reflection in image and sound may perhaps offer a glimpse of the future. The installation responds to visitors and generates new images and music in the style of the original Koyaanisqatsi. The number of visitors and the nature of their movements influence its output. Supported by Onassis ONX Studios. 源自:
Voice in My Head (2023)
Douban
Kyle McDonald / Lauren Lee McCarthy
IDFA DocLab Competition for Digital Storytelling For some, ChatGPT is the answer to any question, for others it’s an apocalyptic vision. For media artists Kyle McDonald and Lauren Lee McCarthy, a chatbot offers a lot of interactive potential. Becoming part of their installation Voice in My Head is a subjective experience in which ChatGPT is used to influence and shape personal conversation choices. In a reception room, you are given wireless earbuds that connect to an application. From this point on, you have a voice in your head that makes itself heard whether you ask it anything or not. Is it creepy or in fact interesting when the chatbot listens in on your conversations and immediately responds to intervene in your social reality? This reality is the festival environment, where you talk to other visitors who are probably not aware that it’s not just your brilliant mind steering your conversations. “The voice” encourages you and feeds you knowledge. And if you linger on a topic for too long, it advises you to move on to a new subject. In collaboration with The National Theatre. 源自:
