We are delighted to present our twelfth cassette... the eponymous debut album from the mysterious Order Of The Arcane.



We don't know much about this enigmatic artist. We received a wax sealed papyrus at DF HQ, delivered by a raven. Contained within were instructions as to where to find these recordings with permission to use them.



The album is a cross between folk horror and dungeon synth. Archaic drones, medieval melodies and druidic synthesizers.

“Noslyth had come far, but now the lunar month was drawing to its close. The thinnest sliver of white light hung in the dusky purple sky as Noslyth drew their horse to a halt on a plateau overlooking the Dark Valley. The last twenty-three days had been punishing… and now they were here: on the verge of their final foray. Below them the valley drops into darkness; acrid smoke curls from an evil borehole at its centre. Vast dragons shriek horrifically, as they circle the lightning-blasted peaks. At daybreak Noslyth will descend, scaling the darkness of the mysterious pit. What waits within, none have told. Miserable death… or mountains of gold?”



Many of Dark Valley’s EPs follow a ritualised, archetypal pattern: a journey from our the world we know, down into the subterranean, mythic underworld of the dungeon… and a passage through the darkness to glorious, transcendent realms. For this reworking of the adventurer’s story, Dark Valley’s Lord Agsgodis is joined by Rig Flare from Leeds’ geomantic drone unit Borehole. Spinning out from the ‘Withered Claw’ session for Dark Valley’s ‘World Fades’ album, the music offered here spans blackened dungeon-synth, discordant doom, and celestial choirwork. This is experimental, chiaroscuro dungeon synth for those who like to delve deep.

Blades of Folmär is a dark fantasy ambient project, performed by the ancient and mysterious Ser Folmär. These tracks were inspired by late night plays of the “Crypt of the Serpent King” and reading the Fighting Fantasy classic ‘chose your own adventure’ book “Deathtrap Dungeon”.

Don't you hate getting lost in spaces where the corridors keep folding into themselves?

Where every wall murmurs with memory and the air is thick with the residue of time?



You want to flee, don't you?



Don't you know, you'll be swallowed whole by the echoes?



Remember, a sorcerer never flees.

They press their ear against the stone and listen to it's whispers, feeling the pulse that hums beneath mortar and bone.



You have to resonate with it, traveler.



Don't try to fight it.

Don't flee.

Escape is a false promise, there is no outside to reach.



Can you resonate hard enough, traveler?

Can you be present loud enough?

Can you sing in a way in which you become the echoes you were fleeing from?



That is the only way anything will change.

All of the tracks are improvisation based and arranged and recorded in one session with minimal post-production work. Instrumentation includes a Casio CT-X3000 and Casio SA-46, Magnus chord organ, acoustic and electric five string basses, kalimba, melodica, jaw harp, toy guitar and ukulele, found sounds, various software synths, and probably a thing or two I’ve forgotten, all generously slathered in analog and digital effects.

Analog keyboards purr against kalimba droplets. Magnus organ exhales velvet ectoplasm. Toy guitar, ukulele, bass, melodica and assorted little miracles crawl over each other / under each other / inside each other until instrumentation becomes irrelevant and everything melts into one enormous lubricated sound-world.
