Welcome to the gayest of gay ghettoes, West Lahunga Beach, a trendy neighborhood with its own time zone (when you leave you have to set your watch to five minutes ago). This is where Rick and Steve make their fabulously decorated double-income-no-children home. The insults fly, nothing goes unspoken, and the ugly, bitter truth about domestic bliss never looked so cute. Rick and Steve have been LTRing it for seven years—that means long-term relationship (many gays have only heard of the term). They live with their sometimes magical pussycat, Pussy, in a gorgeous little two bedroom that Steve virtually stole off the market. They have been just been asked by Kirsten and Dana for a sperm donation. Kirsten and her grumpy wife Dana have cohabitated for three long, drama-filled but satisfying, years. Kirsten's lifelong friend, Rick, is her first choice to father their child. The only catch is, Kirsten's wife and Rick's husband are avowed mortal enemies. It started one day when Steve had an accident with Dana's hair (who knew patchouli oil was so flammable?). Steve's best friend and bad influence is Chuck, a bitter old queen who is outspoken, HIV positive, and uses a wheelchair. Chuck's partner of four years is Evan, a feisty 19 year-old club kid who never sleeps. Together, they're the "other couple" that Rick and Steve do couple things with, like gay cruises, potlucks, and of course, White Parties. Despite their differences, these three couples are there for each other through ugly and uglier. They're chosen family and though they may bicker and bite and cheat and assassinate character and occasionally attempt manslaughter, at the end of the day (sometimes that's 8AM), they're still family. This makes surviving in the cute, plastic, gay, and unforgiving world of West Lahunga Beach a little bit easier.

The first season of the American television drama series True Blood premiered on September 7, 2008 and concluded on November 23, 2008. It consists of 12 episodes, each running approximately 55 minutes in length and was, for the most part, based on the novel Dead Until Dark, the first entry in The Southern Vampire Mysteries by Charlaine Harris. The story takes place in the fictional town of Bon Temps, Louisiana, two years after vampires have made their presence known to mankind, and follows telepathic waitress Sookie Stackhouse as she attempts to solve a series of murders that seem to be motivated by a hatred of vampires. HBO broadcast the first season on Sunday nights at 9:00 pm in the United States, with a repeat showing at 11:00 pm. The complete first season was released on DVD and Blu-ray on May 19, 2009.

The first season introduced main characters of the series, including Fox Mulder and Dana Scully who were portrayed by David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson respectively, and recurring characters Deep Throat, Walter Skinner and The Smoking Man. The season introduced the series' main concept, revolving around the investigation of paranormal or supernatural cases, known as X-Files, by the Federal Bureau of Investigation; it also began to lay the groundwork for the series' overarching mythology. Initially influenced by Kolchak: The Night Stalker and The Twilight Zone, series creator Chris Carter pitched the idea for the series to Fox twice before it was accepted for production. The season saw the series quickly gaining popularity, with ratings rising steadily throughout its run; and garnered generally positive reviews from critics and the media. It helped to make stars of its two lead roles, and several of its taglines and catchphrases have since become cultural staples.
