关注独立音乐的朋友不知道会不会忽视加拿大的清新势力，其实当更多的朋友把注意力放在欧洲清新小厂或者美国新锐公司的时候，象加拿大这样有着丰富音乐资源的国家总是被遗忘。 这次介绍的Star便是来自多伦多的乐队最初是在纽约组建，后来回到加拿大才调整到现在的阵容。Star迄今已经发表过三张专辑，自第二张Heart开始与加拿大独立公司Arts & Crafts合作。乐队主唱Torquil Campbell除了乐队的事业，还从事影视音乐的制作，曾参与《欲望城市》等剧的原声音乐编配。 虽说乐队成员大都是New wave的追随者，但在他们的音乐里所体现的仍旧是常青的吉他流行曲风骨，当然两位主唱（男女各一）嗓音的搭配令人感觉清新而不腻滑，较之欧洲一些清新团体过于甜腻的歌声来说，Star保留了更多的力量和激情。 这张新片于2004年9月18日在加拿大推出，到今年3月8日才在美国上市发行。作品水准统一，悦耳流畅，编曲方面张弛有序。相信喜欢Indie-pop的朋友会感兴趣。 （题外：当初接触这个团体的时候，对于他们的名字也感觉十分有意思。如此大众的一个词汇，竟然到他们才被选用做团体名称，而我们中国的乐队在取名字方面是越来越花哨，越来越不好记）

「Stars」四位團員曾表示深愛名團「The Smith」、「New Order」與Marvin Gaye的歌曲，也受這些人有所影響。雖然聽不出音樂中有受到Marvin Gaye多少啟發，但確實有「The Smith」、「New Order」兩團流暢音樂的基本功，在「Heart」這張專輯中，甚至有不少歌的編曲略有英倫名團「Saint Etienne」味道。比如說首曲「what the snowman learned about love」。 該團由兩位核心成員Torquil Campbell與Chris Seligman 組成，之後再加上兩位好友Evan Cranley及Amy Millan，2000年在蒙特羅正式組團，2001年發行單曲後就獲好評，接著處女專輯「Nightsongs」反應不俗。 2003年再發「Heart」，評價更上一層樓，獲AMG四顆星高評，甚至還得到以刁鑽品味聞名的Pitchfork給出8.4分極優評價。可見花草派清新民謠加電味的輕搖滾也能在通俗與創意間獲得樂評青睞，而非容易耽溺於取巧旋律中。 最讓人驚訝的是，團員之一Torquil竟能在做音樂的當下，還跑去演演影集「Law & Order」及「慾望城市」， Seligman還跑去做百老匯音樂劇。團員沒專心搞音樂，似乎也沒影響這張專輯品質。專輯十一首歌曲曲爽口，打從首曲就攻破心防，第三曲，也是專輯同名曲「Heart」硬是好聽，男女主唱溫柔對唱，聽第一次副歌就讓人忍不住跟著輕哼吟唱。 第五、六首「Death to Death」、「The Vanishing」有點80年代電子合成樂味道那種流行歌曲。第七首「Romantic Comedy」又回歸清新民謠路線，聽過這首的人，就不難想見為何樂評會用加拿大版的「Belle & Sebastian」形容他們。 正當90年代以校園民謠風打遍天下無敵手的「Belle & Sebastian」近年略走下坡時，很高興見到「Stars」的掘起，他們融合「Belle & Sebastian」那股簡單雋永的詞曲風，還能添上電味外衣，讓人耳朵再次嘗鮮。 所以，夏天，不要只唱「我愛台妹」或「我愛夏天」，可由「Heart」中的音樂為你降暑。

Do You Trust Your Friends? is the reworking of the Stars acclaimed 2004 album Set Yourself On Fire. Band friends of have remixed Set Yourself On Fire track for track. The result is amazing.

2010 release, the fifth album from the Canadian Alt-Rock outfit. Ten years after singer-lyricist Torquil Campbell and keyboardist Chris Seligman conceived of Stars in a decrepit New York apartment, one can listen back through the band's discography and hear dozens of songs that find new ways to contemplate the ancient, ageless subjects of love and death. To that end, The Five Ghosts, would seem to be business as usual. Indeed, a scan of its song titles ('Dead Hearts,' 'I Died So I Could Haunt You', 'The Last Song Ever Written') would suggest as much. And yes, the band whose previous album, 2007's In Our Bedroom After the War, imagined romance in the shadow of the threat of apocalypse, are as fascinated as ever by the potential of the ruinous love song. But The Five Ghosts is different from previous Stars albums. Simpler, sparer, and more confident (in its own quiet way), it also trades some of the band's previous dramatic flourish for the sort of direct, heart-bearing communication that comes from hard-won experience.
