Various Positions is the seventh studio album by Leonard Cohen, released in December 1984 (and February 1985). It marked not only his turn to the modern sound and use of synthesizers (particularly on the opening track), but also, after his work on harmonies and backing vocals on the previous Recent Songs (1979), an even greater contribution from Jennifer Warnes, who is credited equally to Cohen as vocalist on all of the tracks.

Despite the maturity that comes with releasing a 6th album, Ecstasy in the Shadow of Ecstasy finds new opportunities for rawness and vulnerability in a collection of songs about desire without end. The recurring themes are elation sought and remembered, the art and taste for living, romantic friends until the end, the impermanence of home, and roads not taken. Michelle often seeks out uncomfortable emotions, gracing them with grandiosity, countering them with humour, with a voice always upfront both authoritative and self-effacing. Confessional, tragicomic and sultry, EITSOE is an album of invitations – to a moment of all moments, love as a shared dream, psychedelic landscapes, and a glorious degenerate romance. In addition to solitary guitars and her classic lo-fi synths, this album also reaches heights of polished dark pop, lush arrangements with gypsy and latin influences, and symphonic epic rock.

The songs were written and recorded by Chinawoman between 2008-10 and mixed by Van Roland. The download includes an 8-page digital booklet and is available for 5 bucks until June 1st.

We took our time to craft it with love and we're very proud of how it came together. This album was mixed quietly so it sounds warmer and more natural. Be sure to turn the volume up!
