Infatuating mise-en-scène embedded with a myriad of movie/jazz references, but a strong suspension of disbelief is required for a musical of our era. Would love to buy this story but just get hindered by this innocent fantasy shell.

Only very few moments capture some glimpses of a Gene Kelly musical. Unlike Bruce Lee’s martial arts, actors fail to express themselves truly through body movements or singing, although Spielberg's mise-en-scene nails it, the 2021 version of WSS is far from a good remake. Still love it for speaking up for minorities.
