通常说来，中文世界在学术翻译方面是比英语世界落后的，但偶尔有一两本书的译介，中文世界要比英语世界强一些，《古典时代疯狂史》的译介就属于这种情况。 《古典时代疯狂史》有一个英文缩写本叫《疯癫与文明》，1999年就有了中文译本。但《疯癫与文明》是很有问题的，将法文原著的许多精微之处都删去了，变成一个不伦不类的普及读物。目前，英语世界还在使用着这个有问题的缩写本，而中文世界则很幸运地有了林志明先生比较可靠的全译本。 当然，林译本在台湾已经出版了好几年，对福柯思想感兴趣的内地学术书读者恐怕已经等得不耐烦了。现在，中文简体字版终于推出，好歹算是对他们有个交代了。
