拳皇97，是一款SNK公司发布于1997年的街机格斗游戏，在国内非常受欢迎，相比拳皇前三个版本各方面均有较大改进，是拳皇系列的成熟之作。也有一些经过修改的版本。
相对于前作，KOF97登场人物再次进行了调整，草薙京的徒弟矢吹真吾加入，高人气的《饿狼传说》

人物玛丽，龙二，比利也加入到了此作，前作BOSS队退出江湖，在系统设定上，KOF97提供了ADVANCED MODE和EXTRA MODE两种模式选择。前者是以KOF96为基础，但能量槽最大可以蓄满3格（每蓄满一格以一颗宝珠形式表示），并且会因角色之间的关系影响下一位队员的能量槽。根据角色的不同，在选择人物出场次序的时候，可以看到下一位队员的心情，黄色的笑脸表示可以多获得一颗宝珠，无表情的白脸则无得无失，红色的怒脸则会丢失宝珠。同时追加了一些新的跳跃特性，大大提高了游戏的速度性和战略性。其中小跳成为对战时最常见进攻方式。而EXTRA MODE 则相当于KOF94和KOF95 系统的继承，可以使用防守时回避和进攻，而且前冲不能。KOF97必杀技的出招速度加快，必杀技的输入也得到了进一步的简化，甚至可以取消必杀技收招的硬直时间，进而发出更多华丽的甚至是致命的连续技。暴走莉安娜以及暴走八神庵这两位对战时禁用人物更是将速度发挥到了极限。虽然BUG满天飞，但是KOF97的出现，无疑是将KOF提升到了前所未有的高度，个人认为是KOF系列最经典的一作，直至今日，KOF97在各地街机厅也依然长盛不衰就是一个最好的证明。
