罩袍，英国人称为波卡（Burka），阿富汗人叫它茶达里（Chardari），是一种长至脚踝，面部用网眼布料织成的蒙面长袍，也是外界对阿富汗女性的固有印象。 真实是一种尊严，对于探究真实，面对真实的人如此，对于终于得以真实样貌示人的人，更是如此。人们对于阿富汗的印象，似乎只有战争、童婚以及对女性的虐待。是的，以上皆为事实，然而事实不止于此。跑了几次阿富汗后，笔者深感人们的偏见就像一根刺牢牢地钉在罩袍上面，罩袍遮挡的不仅是她们的生活，还有我们的双眼。 笔者与书中的六位阿富汗女性同吃同住一起，她们是赫拉特附近小镇里教中国武术的老师卡瓦利，被时代周刊成为改变阿富汗的女性；雇佣了400名坎大哈女工（其中很多是寡妇）的绣坊老板瑞吉娜（她的父亲是前坎大哈市长，2011年被自杀炸弹炸死）；吃有机食品，行为举止都不像阿富汗人的记者迪巴；因先天发育不全用嘴画画的撒谎少女鲁巴巴；开馕铺贴补家用，养出两个做女性广播的好女儿的妇人古尔赞；还有做为难民生在伊朗，如今是赫拉特大学兽医系的大学生热扎伊。6位女性，从16岁的残疾画家少女到年近半百的做饼妇人；6个故事，从前坎大哈市长的女儿到普普通通的女大学生；6种角度，从不能声张的爱情到舐犊情深的亲情。她们出生不同的省份，来自不同的民族，从事不同的工作，不同的颜色不同的性格，阿富汗女性和我们一样，没有更高尚，也没有更卑微。 笔者自认为没有权利来定义她们是什么样的人，只希望能以平视的角度，用所听所见所闻来真实呈现当代阿富汗女性的生活。
