Celeste Epiphany Waite is an American-born British singer and songwriter. In 2019, she won both the Brit Award for Rising Star and the BBC Music Award for Introducing Artist of the Year, and was also named the number-one predicted breakthrough act in an annual BBC poll of music critics, Sound of 2020.

Batiste regularly tours with his band Stay Human, and appears with them nightly as bandleader and musical director on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Batiste also serves as the Music Director of The Atlantic and the Creative Director of the National Jazz Museum in Harlem.

On the album title, Michael explains "This album, it’s kind of a defiant thing; I’m engaging with who I am and I’m not going to have an alter ego, or become Sasha Fierce or Ziggy Stardust, even through everyone’s telling me I need to be this, that or the other. I can just be Michael Kiwanuka."
