作者对历史资料的搜集、整理工作，实在是做得非常充分。且不说他在讨论每一个问题的时候所列举的论据有多么翔实，单只看他在文中所引用的每一句话，每一个小故事，无不加以详细的出处说明。作者参考的资料来源很多，其中的一部分是各种专业期刊、会刊。要想在这么多涉及神学、考古学、教育学、历史学、哲学、地质学、社会学、心理学、文学等范围的资料中，找出能为自己所用且与主题紧密贴合的只言片语来，需要多么大的阅读量和投入整理工作的时间啊！相比起来，笔者本人所花的心力就太微不足道了。我相信，作者所引用的资料，对于国内从事同一领域研究的工作者们而言，也是非常有用和具有指导意义的，因此具有很高的学术价值。最难得的是，在这本书中，诙谐 、幽默，甚至是离奇的参考资料也时有出现。
