全国联赛第一场，经过苦战，湘北战胜了A级球队丰玉高中。第二战遇到了不可一世的山王工高——连续3年的全国冠军，而且山王比以往更强。湘北与之苦战，樱木为了救球撞伤了脊椎……最后以1分险胜，且最后一球是樱木和流川两人可遇而不可求的精彩配合，樱木跳投完成绝杀。但是下一场比赛对阵爱和学院，湘北却因为损耗太大而惨败……
