The Poet & The Blue Flower
Douban
Kinit Her genre: Folk
release date 2013-01-01 publisher: Brave Mysteries
Through kaleidoscopic composition, constitution of voice, and timbral experimentation, Nathaniel Ritter and Troy Schafer continue to braid their string of works as Kinit Her. Their discography has grown strong over recent years with releases on such esteemed labels as Alt.Vinyl, Small Doses, Pesanta Urfolk, Reue um Reue, and now, AVANT!; this repertoire has become a powerful force that is harmoniously reliable and unpredictable in theme, atmosphere, and trajectory. On The Poet & the Blue Flower, Schafer and Ritter endure in architecting a unique system of auditory mysticism. Falling in an undefinable territory of the post-industrial and neofolk landscapes with both strictly structured song-like fragments and more free-associative passages throughout its 8 tracks, this album features the exalted rhetoric that is Schafer’s stoic orchestral arrangements, Ritter’s tidal electronics and the continually evolving vocal deliveries of both men. Lyrically, The Poet & the Blue Flower continues with Kinit Her’s recent bent of drawing on poetry from Germany’s early 20th Century post-romantic literary underground. With this record, they drift slightly from Der Kosmikerkreis to the poems of literary and political philosopher Rudolf Pannwitz serving as their sole inspiration. Pannwitz’ poetry effortlessly escalates Kinit Her’s themes of the entanglement of Heaven, Earth, and those who believe to be dwelling in some intersection thereof. Visual accompaniment to Kinit Her’s music, as it was on the recent The Cavern Stanzas, has been graciously provided by the brush of Gianluca Martucci. Mastering courtesy of James Plotkin.

Ludovico Einaudi genre: Classical
release date 2015-10-16 publisher: Decca (UMO) Classics
Alt-classical composer/pianist Ludovico Einaudi returns with a brand new album ‘Elements’ released on 16th October on the Decca label. With that in mind Music-News.com caught up with Ludovico Einaudi at Decca HQ in London to find out more. Check out our exclusive interview below. Einaudi has quietly become one of the most successful musicians on the planet. His hauntingly beautiful and evocative music tops the classical charts worldwide, particularly here in the UK and in his home country Italy) and he has sold over 1.5 million records. He is the biggest streamed classical artist in the UK with over 130 million streams – that’s more than Pavarotti and Bocelli, and neck a neck with current chart stars Years & Years. ‘Elements’ was recorded this year at his studio in the Italian countryside. It is inspired by the world around him: nature’s elements (earth, water, air, and fire) as well as the lines of the grass and hills, mathematical and scientific elements, musical form and works of arts including those by Paul Klee and Gustav Klimt. Einaudi created the album’s cover artwork himself – drawing a variety of different symbols and illustrations, which combine to stunning effect. Einaudi’s music has been heard by millions worldwide – especially through adverts, trailers, film scores and TV soundtracks. He has provided music for more than 20 films including Shane Meadows’ ‘This Is England’ film and the TV sequel ‘This Is England ‘86’, for which he earned a BAFTA nomination, as well as ‘Black Swan’ (starring Oscar winner Natalie Portman) and Ricky Gervais’ TV series ‘Derek’. Einaudi has performed to huge crowds at venues around the world and has even achieved a Top 40 pop hit thanks to a BBC Radio 1 campaign by DJ Greg James. His recent UK dates include sell-out performances at Blenheim Palace, Hammersmith Apollo, Barbican and headlining the iTunes festival at the Roundhouse. His music has been described as minimalist, alt-classical, ambient and contemporary, but it defies easy classification. He sums it up best: “There is something in it that comes from classical, but I have influences from different music I have experienced in my life, from African music to folk and rock.” This latest album brings together a musical alchemy that draws on elements of electronicam, world, rock and classical music – reflecting Einaudi’s unique position on the international music scene.

Ólafur Arnalds genre: Electronic
release date 2018-08-24 publisher: Decca (UMO) Classics
Great new album from Olafur Arnalds - a long time favourite of Rough Trade. The highly anticipated record features Ólafur’s ground-breaking new software, Stratus, which transforms the humble piano into a unique new instrument. He is currently performing his new material on a huge worldwide tour. The Stratus Pianos are two self-playing, semi-generative player pianos which are triggered by a central piano played by Ólafur, and are the centrepiece of his new works. The custom-built software is born out of two years of work by the composer and audio developer, Halldór Eldjárn. The algorithms generated from Stratus were also used to create the innovative album artwork. On the album Ólafur uses these methods reinvigorate the compositional experience, feeding back into the creative process in a completely new way. As Ólafur plays a note on the piano, two different notes are generated by Stratus, creating unexpected harmonies and surprising melodic sequences.

"Imagine looking out of your window each morning, the same window with each day giving you a unique emotion setting your mood for the day" - Ludovico Einaudi Ludovico Einaudi is back with a new project, Seven Days Walking: seven releases spanning seven months, featuring a new combination of piano/cello/violin but with a return to his trademark sound that has made him one of the most important and relevant composers today. The project takes the idea of the same walk done over seven days, but each day the experience is different due to a variety of factors – the weather, the season, the walker's mood, the appearance of different wildlife, a new observation within the landscape and so on. The first instalment, Seven Days Walking (Day 1), is significant as it establishes the project theme. The subsequent six variations on this theme (Seven Days Walking Days 2 to 7) will be released later this year and will feature stunning cello and violin arrangements, apart from Day 7 which is solely piano. This is essential Einaudi listening.

‘Seven Days Walking’: seven bodies of music to be released over seven consecutive months. The first, ‘Seven Days Walking: Day One’, which interweaves piano and strings in his unmistakable style, is Einaudi’s 14th studio album and will be released on 15th March, on Decca. ‘Seven Days Walking: Day Two’ follows a month later. Each ‘day’ is then released, digitally, a month apart, leading up to ‘Day Seven’ which will be released in the autumn in a box-set of the complete Seven Days. Inspiration for the entire project derived from walks that Einaudi would take through the mountains in winter. He explains, "In January last year I often went for long walks in the mountains, always following more or less the same trail. It snowed heavily, and my thoughts roamed free inside the storm, where all shapes, stripped bare by the cold, lost their contours and colours. Perhaps that feeling of extreme essence was the origin of this album." The first album focuses on several main themes, which then recur in different forms on the following albums – seven variations following the same imaginary itinerary. Or the same itinerary, retraced at seven different times.
