Medeski, Martin & Wood
release date 2008-08-19 publisher: Tzadik
2008 arrival of Vol. 11 - Zabeos: The Book of Angels by Medeski, Martin & Wood. The funkified Jazz trio Medeski, Martin & Wood plays Fusion music by way of the downtown New York Avant scene of the 1990s. John Medeski's fuzzy keyboards are equally indebted to the Meters, Jimmy Smith, Sun Ra, Chris Wood and Billy Martin provide fluid rhythms that can lock in like the JBs if the mood is appropriate. This ability to blend Jazz technique and structures with head-nodding grooves endeared the trio to the "jam band" community and its post-Jerry Garcia figurehead, Trey Anastasio of Phish, who joined the band live on several occasions.

Koenjihyakkei
release date 2009-04-14 publisher: Skin Graft Records
Nivraym is the third studio album by Japan's Koenjihyakkei. Led by Yoshida Tatsuya of the progressive-hardcore drum and bass duo Ruins, Nivraym is the band's purest, most uncompromising expression of Zeuhl music to date, blending progressive rock, symphonic rock, fusion, and neoclassicism with the energy of hardcore punk, the volume of metal, and the attitude of rock. Previously available only in Japan, Nivraym has been extensively rebuilt for this 2009 worldwide release. The band has gone back to the original master recordings and the current line-up has added new flourishes, additional overdubs, and re-recorded drum tracks. The entire album was remixed and re-mastered at Japan's Magaibutsu Studios.
