Echoing what other folks have said on here: I can't help but think that this movie might have added up to more if the filmmakers had stepped back and asked themselves if this was truly their story to tell, or had at least more closely involved people from the cultures being depicted. Also the musical elements felt extremely under-baked and underutilized within the film's structure -- Every song/dance sequence could have been cut, and nobody would have known they were even there in the first place.
