Weapons (2025)Maybe not as thematically focused or "on-message" as the ad campaign might have led people to believe, but I think every sequence of this movie is chewing on some element of our current sociopolitical situation. Not necessarily in ways that seem obvious, and the movie definitely tinkers with the admittedly on-the-nose Sandy Hook subtext of an entire elementary school classroom "disappearing" en masse, but by taking us into the POVs of all the various players in the story it builds a picture of a community in crisis that goes beyond the central event. Looking forward to taking this one for another spin sometime soon, maybe with a friend for their first-time watch. I also hope that the conversation around this one and Zach Cregger's other work inspires somebody at Disney/Fox to get off their lazy indolent asses and put out a BARBARIAN special edition Blu-ray with all the trimmings. Or at the very least throw the rights over to Shout Factory or some other horror-friendly physical media label to do so.
