Murder Party - Review

A pretty enjoyable debut from one of my favorite new filmmakers, Jeremy Saulnier. It's not the tension-builder that last year's Green Room was, or nearly as clockwork-precise in its plotting as Blue Ruin, but you can see the seeds of both of those films planted here. The mix of slapstick and gore is pretty well-done within the apparent budget, although sometimes the setup and payoff for the gags feels a bit muffled in the execution. The performances are enjoyable if unpolished, and I imagine people who went to art school might relate to the rivalries among the hipster douchebag villains.
