Night of the Creeps (1986)

Another fun one that came out when I was too young to appreciate it. Having just watched The Blob a few nights ago, I appreciated the homage in the opening scenes, as well as the immediate doubling-down on the peril with the parodic introduction of the axe-murderer subplot. The postmodern approach that the film takes with its scares (to the point of naming characters after notable horror directors) can make the whole thing seem a bit frivolous, but I enjoyed it for what it was. There's just enough genuine pathos to lend it some stakes, but it stays light enough on its feet to stay fun.
