Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980)

For my release order rewatch, I watched A New Hope last week, and Empire this week. One thing that I notice in these first two movies: For all the bitching and moaning that certain SW fans do about the semi-nebulous concept of "pacing" in the newer movies, the first two films (which are generally the most well regarded) have an awful lot of unproductive faffing around, with characters wandering around on (or in) planets, bickering and falling down and getting captured and so on. To which I say: GOOD! I like spending time with these movies, even if some of it is pure travelogue and/or picaresque. Star Wars is often called a space opera, but a lot of the time it's actually a related subgenre: Planetary romance, a la Burroughs or Herbert. So much of the fun is just hanging out and enjoying the settings and details and waiting for things to catch up to the plot.
