Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989)I'll admit this is a bad Star Trek I kinda like. It shares some of the same issues that held some of the previous movies back, WRT damp-squib villains and weird moments (like its brief two-scene fascination with exotic dancing) that probably should have been cut at the script stage. I'm not sure why David Warner is the top billed actor outside of the main crew, his character is a total nothing that did not require a performer of his talents. Thankfully, it didn't get in the way of him being cast in the next one. Looking back on these movies in order, I don't really understand what the deal is with the Klingon Empire. It seems pretty clear based on every appearance of the Klingons since TMP that they don't really have a handle on their fleet or its captains, who all seem to be running around like loose-cannon privateers without any specific guidance or orders from the Homeworld. If they were still meant to represent the Soviets at this point (and VI certainly runs with that), the metaphor doesn't feel especially apt, unless we're going with some crazypants Tom Clancy version of how the Cold War went.
