火星之水完全可以变成一个火星救援以上的好莱坞式电影，但它是英剧神秘博士的特别篇——fixed的时间点无可更改，历史注定的毁灭，是否还有拯救的必要？是否还能拯救？作为神秘博士系列在设定上总是不免要遇到的核心的矛盾，火星之水展示出了时间领主内心的一切煎熬与柔情。最终命运高悬头顶，time lord也无能为力。
