读剧本时觉得《万》相对于与之齐名的《三姊妹》等作要显得平庸、乏力、空泛，然而康氏的编导确实让它成为了一部伟大的悲剧，且观看时能切实感受到亚氏所言悲剧的”净化“作用。但康氏对《万》的改编绝非当代常见的有狐假虎威之嫌的面目全非的改编，而是对契诃夫的精神保持了极高的忠诚。确如霍氏所说，“.. the Russian Revolution has preserved .. the typical nineteenth-century bourgeois attitude to 'good literature' with exceptional fidelity. They were .. henceforth protected against the normal evolutionary erosion.”
