Wonder Man (Miniseries) - Review

Despite some loose ties with the Marvel universe, this is more a character drama with superhero elements than a superhero show. It centers on Simon, a young actor struggling with his career, and his friendship with Trevor, a disgraced veteran actor (who posed as The Mandarin in Iron Man 3). Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley are both excellent in their roles, and the story has a lot of heart. Abdul-Mateen in particular gets to display quite a bit of emotion and vulnerability in a way Hollywood doesn't often allow (brawny!) Black actors to show.

Marvel Studios has had a bit of struggle with their post-Avengers: Endgame releases, but this is exactly the sort of thing I'm excited to see them release. Diversifying the types of stories told in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a smart move to avoid comic book movie/series fatigue. Not everything has to be The Avengers.
