So Resident Evil fans think they’re pissed now because Cregger came up with his own original protagonist and plot for this? Heh, just wait until they find out the movie is a straight-up comedy! Seriously, even with the buckets of blood everywhere and monsters running amok, I struggle to think of this as “horror” at all. He might genuinely just be making fun of the games here, as things reach borderline spoof levels of silly. It can naturally be a bit much as a result, but there’s so much energy thanks to the 1.5hr runtime (under 2hr films FTW!), Austin Abrams’ hilarious performance, and the terrific directing that I had a blast regardless. Still, might want to skip this if you’re looking faithful, respectful adaptation of the source material. This is more for the people simply interested in a wacky good time and who maybe find video games stupid as well.

Still not “good” in the conventional sense, but there’s enough ‘80s/‘90s campy slasher sequel vibes here to make it entertaining in a schlock cinema sort of way. Plus, stuff actually happens this time so it’s a marked improvement over Chapter 1.
