a review of 沉睡魔咒

Maleficent is more than just a new twist on the classic Sleeping Beauty story. It's story about a woman who overcomes betrayal and violation by becoming a mother. It falls a little too heavy on storybook trappings which can make it feel like a traditional fairytale movie. Something that robs it of some power and I can't help but wonder how much better and more appreciated Maleficent could have been had it have gone a little darker. Yet even when it's relying on formula the film's magnificent visuals and the incredible performance from Angelina Jolie keep things enchanting. This was a role Jolie was born to play. She alone adds so much emotion and gravitas to the events onscreen. Plus it's the first movie of this type that defines true love as something other than a mutual attraction between a boy and a girl. That's a plus in my book.
