Yeah, I Wouldn’t Mind a Sequel…

Street Fighter (2026)Contains some of the best, if not THE best, animated sequences I’ve ever seen that had me asking WHY ISN’T THE WHOLE MOVIE BE LIKE THIS?! Then Callina Liang's Alexander Volkanovski’s fine ahh would appear onscreen and I’d think to myself “no, live-action was definitely the right choice!” 😍❣️🤤
This is a wild freaking ride. A bit overstuffed and occasionally gets too stupid/ridiculous with its humor (particularly in the slower first half), but when it really gets going the fights are some of the most exciting anime-esque crap to ever hit the silver screen. The cast is totally game with every member truly giving some career best performances for some reason, the soundtrack is PHENOMENAL, I need more of Ken/Ryu’s dynamic in my life, and you can tell director Kitao Sakurai was having an absolute blast behind the camera with stuff like the first prison fight with Blanka alone having so much going on visually. This really needs to be seen in theaters to fully take in and appreciate all the sounds and sights.
It’s definitely not going to be for everyone as it’s dumb as a box of rocks, but if you ever want to get back in touch with or let your inner 12 year old boy run wild then this is worth a watch. Everyone involved must have had so much fun making it. I’d still love to see the Philippou brother’s take on the property, but this is easily the best Street Fighter movie to date (not exactly high praise though, I know).
