Shark Zone - Review
- People are capable of having entire conversations underwater despite using only basic scuba gear.
- Sharks growl and roar like lions. -At one point a woman sunbathes topless. On a public beach. Where children are running around. -The main character's wife berates him for making their son afraid of sharks despite it being mentioned more than once that SHE'S the one who has been telling him about them. This a dumb movie. But likably so. It's clear the people involved were trying to make a good movie, but just didn't know how. So what we got was a low budget Jaws ripoff with a subplot involving Russian gangsters hunting for sunken diamonds. Who might I just add are some of the nicest criminals ever. They literally try to do whatever they can to get what they want as peacefully as possible. Even going as far as offering to pay the main character twenty large whether they actually find the treasure or not. He didn't even have to do anything, just lead them there! They were practically forced to resort to violence and kidnapping. Shark Zone comes complete with awkward writing, poor performances, and tons of campy shark kills. It also uses a lot of real-life shark footage as well. Does any of it look familiar? That's because it's stolen! From what I've read they actually used footage from other bad shark movies (like the Shark Attack series) to put this whole thing together. Despite all of this though it's kind of hard to hate. It just so earnestly made and well-meaning. The people who made this really wanted you to have fun with it. To be fair that's something that's totally possible. Just not in the way they intended. This is one for those who like laughing at bad movies that are poorly made, but have the best of intentions.
