a review of 晚安,脚先生
A cute idea for a short, but ultimately ends up feeling lazy and uninspired. Like no one involved had any real ideas for the project, but decided to slap it together anyways. The brief moments of retro cartoon action don't make much of an impact so there's nothing to laugh at despite the premise leaving the door open for a lot of wacky hijinks. It ends just as it begins to look like things are going to start happening. This is little more than a showcase for Genndy Tartakovsky's fantastic hand-drawn 2D animation and some great voice acting. The running time is too brief to allow for anything else. It doesn't even make good use of it's Hotel Transylvania ties. You could have taken out the monsters and replaced them with regular people. It wouldn't have made a difference.
