a review of The Wandering Earth
Earth's Journey to New Stars
It just so happened that Liu Qixin's "Wandering Earth" came to me after watching a Chinese blockbuster, where the plot was very similar to one of my favorite space works by Frasis Karsak, "Escape of the Earth." While studying the origin of the film, I found out that the film was based on a book. The idea is interesting to me. And I decided to read this work.
I would like to note right away that I accepted all the wildest rules of the work back in the film, and the childhood love for Karsak's book still resonates warmly in my soul. That's probably why I really liked Liu Qixin's book, despite literally a ton of different contradictions and illogical things from the point of view of science. This includes stopping the rotation of the planet, and stone fuel for super-engines, and much more.
The earth is in danger of death, because our Sun will soon become a red giant and kill everything around. And now the best minds of mankind are turning an entire planet into a spaceship, installing hundreds and thousands of huge engines that will be able to carry us to another solar system. The idea is not new, but it is quite interesting.
An important feature of the narrative is the view of what is happening from the side of ordinary people. The author quite interestingly conveys the experience of the characters, who, like millions of other people, are fighting for their lives, making their tiny but important contribution to the salvation of mankind. Qixin interestingly shows how people change under the pressure of new circumstances, learn to live by different rules and realize that their home — the Earth — will never be the same.
In general, "Wandering Earth" is a good work that is sure to find its reader, who accepts the fantastic world of the dying solar system and humanity's attempt to save his Home. Here you will find the author's good style, interesting arguments of ordinary people in the service of all mankind, and follow the interesting stories of characters who are ready to give their all to save their loved ones and their kind as a whole.
