In 1920s Ireland young doctor Damien O'Donovan prepares to depart for a new job in a London hospital. As he says his goodbyes at a friend's farm, British Black and Tans arrive, and a young man is killed. Damien joins his brother Teddy in the Irish Republican Army, but political events are soon set in motion that tear the brothers apart.

有时候“视角”的滑稽之处就在这里，同样是讲述上世纪20年代左右的历史故事，一战电影中的英军个个大义凛然，正义得爆棚，而到了爱尔兰电影里又都变得面目狰狞，而且他们往往还是同一帮人……总的来说这片子人物塑造比较脸谱化，不如《血腥星期天》来得客观。
