a review of 沙丘

Deeply flawed but still engaging movie. For how it hits now, I think of the over the top sets and costumes of Flash Gordon. I watched the 3hr version which has an Alan Smithee director credit, but that's only for that version and the edited-for-TV one There's not much attempt to actually tell the story (ponderous voice over and occasional "As you know, Bob.." between characters) but it does look and sound amazing (Toto should be known for this soundtrack more than "Africa"). Jack Nance and Kyle MacLachlan, naturally, but also some truly great character actors in improbable eyebrows and wigs - Brad Dourif, Linda Hunt. And yes that's Patrick Stewart -and- Sean Young
