This film opens with a cover of Black Sabbath's "Paranoid" in Japanese and for reasons I'm not going to spoil, that's pretty perfect. Odenkirk is an interim "like a substitute teacher" sheriff in Normal, Minnesota (not Illinois) with some dark dealings afoot and there's a leisurely 40 minutes or so of introducing characters and setting and you don't quite notice exactly how many Checkov's (literal, sometimes) guns on walls are being set up.
