Death on the Nile (2022)

As a sequel, the Nile is generally bloodier and darker than its predecessor. The film has a higher body count and raises the stakes as Poirot's involvement in the case becomes more personal. The film further expands on Poirot's backstory and gives us an insight into his character's origins. Despite his famous detective's sharp looks, Branagh made Poirot feel more human and likable. Likewise, the film is bolstered by a stellar supporting cast, where character dynamics are more intense than in Orient Express, leading to more murders as the film progresses. However, Nile has weaker pacing than Orient Express, where the second and third act feels rushed. While Orient Express admittedly had similar issues with the pacing, it still took its time to dwell on the characters and build up suspicion where you constantly second-guess the killer's identity. However, death on the Nile feels even more rushed, and this is where the film suffers as a murder mystery.
