Mare of Easttown (2021)

first, the accents here are so freaking off they might as well not have made this show. you can't tell some actors to try and do a bad philly accent for like 5% of their lines and then tell the rest of the actors to not even try. criminal negligence from the director. some incredible acting from kate winslet and angourie rice are sadly wasted in this show characterized mostly by gimmicky hbo writing and copaganda. no...cops are not neighborhood do-gooders, and kate winslet's character, no matter how much they try to humanize her, is still a corrupt cop selfishly breaking sooo many laws (and literally assaulting innocent people) in the pursuit of what she perceives to be justice. kinda a nonsense story. i thought it was going to come together, but the twist in episodes 6 and 7 (yeah one of those bs hbo double twist plots...just because) just feel like they just pulled a random name out of the whodunnit hat. dunno why i keep watching hbo shows. i'll also say that i feel mini series are the perfect length and pacing to tell a story similar in complexity to a novel. this show forfeits the advantage of the mini series format by trying to pack way too many narratives in.
