Woman at War (2018)

dunno where to start with this. i guess kudos for making some interesting and unique artistic choices and for filming in beautiful locations. the actual live human live band that stands in the background of scenes and literally plays the soundtrack on camera doesn't not work, but it's also distracting and about as weird as it gets. then there are the weird story lines. the white ladies play adoption saviors. the cops harass the latinx guy every chance they can, which both seems honest and realistic, but also sadly like it was sometimes injected for comic relief? then there's the whole issue with honesty. call me old fashioned, but i think art should be honest? and this isn't. this is so grossly under representing the difficulty of this type of activism that i wonder if it's not like anti insurgent propaganda. this woman isn't particularly careful about her "plans" (that are half baked anyway). she would have been in jail long before this movie even started. or maybe crime is significantly (like orders of magnitude) easier in iceland? also, i have no way to make myself believe this random ass choir director has this conglomeration of skills that pretty much only the world's best spies would have. the part where she just casually goes on a full blown mountain run to evade capture was the last straw for me. this just feels like a sugar high LET'S GO DO ACTIVISM LOOK HOW EASY IT IS TO GET WHAT WE WANT. and yeah that's not how any of this works in the real world. but yeah it would be cool if it did. feels like they did like four hours of research to make this movie.
