Streetwise (1986)

damn this is brutal. does a pretty good job of telling some kind of story. it's interesting. some of the youth in the movie are pretty intense bigots. it's hard to connect with some of these racist, homophobic, misogynist, abusive little shits, but then you're shown some of the family lives and back stories, and it starts to make more sense. in a way i admire that the director didn't censor the subjects, and also pretty sure they could have found five people who weren't gonna spew bigotry all over the camera. yes, documentary makers should remain objective. also, gotta wonder what motivates someone to make a documentary and keep certain footage in. my guess is that lots of the content didn't seem that weird to the people making the movie because they shared some of the same biases. it's from 1984. i know "times were different" (or whatever people say) but still kinda distracting and pulled me out of the actual narrative.
