The Iron Claw (2023)

harris dickinson please come to my house after the movie so i can talk to you about licking chocolate syrup off your stomach. ok, plot spoilers coming below. crazy how some men would rather die than tell someone they're sad. like holy shit what this dad did to his entire family to try and escape feeling inescapable pain. cinematically pretty. acting is pretty goood. the story...there's both too much going on way too fast, and somehow it still manages to get boring at times. maybe mini series woulda been better for this story. just way too much narrative to fit in a two hour film. but also why make a movie glorifying these conservative assholes. also, omitting key details about how much of a shithead the dad is in order to paint these guys as more of a family than a stable of young men (his literal children who mostly all died directly due to his abuse) to be trained and sent into battle as sacrifice striving to heal their father's wounds of inadequacy...does he think people aren't gonna research the actual story? think people aren't gonna find out that the dad used to cosplay a n@zi during his wrestling career? i mean i think it's obvious to anyone watching who's ever been abused that the dad is severely abusive. why hide the true extent of it? weird, weird artistic choices. totally crazy how god didn't save any of them from this shit and maybe how like mental health is real and we should take care of people rather than engaging in bullshit spiritual bypassing. fuck this family, honestly. some real-life-ass trauma porn though. holy shit.
