Bamboozled (2000)wow, i wish i saw this twenty years ago before i knew spike lee was a man who would go on to professionally help the nypd make propaganda to launder their reputation with the black community. how's the same person make this movie that has its foot on the gas almost literally the entire time, then also go on to do that wack bullshit. i wish i understood this man, but i don't. humans are so fucking complex sometimes (which is definitely a theme of this movie). if i rewatched this, it would definitely be the director's commentary version. i definitely don't always understand satire and social commentary, and it would be nice to hear spike talk about the intention behind some of the choices that were made in this movie. i totally thought this was gonna be five stars when it started off with lines like "i don't give a goddamn what that prick spike lee says. tarantino was right. n***** is just a word." (fuck tarantino's fucked up racist ass.) i think also the quasi-diy aesthetic to the camera work wasn't my fave. yasiin bey is fucking amazing. love that dude. edit: can't believe i forgot to write this originally. it's truly incredible this movie exists and got made and i think the writing is bold as fuck and often deeply impactful.
