a review of 角斗士

ok, once you get over the fact the main character has a history of behaving like a genocidal psycopath, like if you can get over that, they do a very interesting job on his redemption arc. and it's emotional and stuff. and the acting is relatively amazing. joaquin phoenix is mesmerizing and terrifying and disgusting. yeah i dunno. also has some decent messaging about solidarity and the evils of tyrrany. not sure if that's on purpose but i felt like it was there in the background. not gonna be in a rush to watch this again or anything, but feels like a really well made, well written, well acted epic.
