a review of 指环王2：双塔奇兵

these mother fuckers don't have clocks, but can arrive at the end of a five-day journey within ten minutes of their planned arrival time. we have gone backwards as a society. legolas swings up onto a galloping horse by one hand. be still my throbbing...heart. legolas is beautiful. that shot is true insanity. some notes: this film, and the novel it is based on are such a beautiful, twisted ride. much more emotional and committing than the first installation. still manages to get some trademark goofy moments in though. smeagol is perfection. gollum, gollum. filthy hobitses. for all the digital fx, these movies also have a decent amount of pretty darn cool practical fx. so very much a different movie from the first one, but flawlessly carries the tone and style through. some really good smeagol quality time in this one. the battle for helm's deep is a whooole thing. a whole fucking thing. the ents are fucking badass. full stop. this one truly is the one that hits me hardest in the heart.
