Zola (2020)ok, this is saying interesting things both about sex trafficking and about racism. but. i don't really feel the statements were made in an impactful enough way for how traumatic this movie is. others might disagree. also, i feel like this should be obvious, but what's depicted in this movie isn't just "sex work"...this is blatant coersion, kidnapping, human trafficking, sex trafficking. it is totally possible to do sex work in an empowered and consensual way, but that is not what this is showing. i feel like a lot of people think that this is sex work and then get all captain save a ho trying to tell people they can't do sex work. rant over. why is riley keough so good at playing racist, dumbass, appropriative, messy ass white girls? it's haunted as fuck. is she like this in real life? i know nothing about her, but it raises some questions, for real. the narration is also a bit off. like...i've watched this two times now (accidentally, because i forgot i watched it and did it again for some reason) and i still am not clear on who tweeted what when. maybe the presentation is just confusing for my lil pea brain, but alas. not my cup of tea. p.s. this is kinda long, and not full of suspense. p.p.s. also blatantly an a twenty four film.
