truly eXquiZite. this is even better than i remembered and was the perfect follow-up to the matrix, touching on a lot of the same themes, but with a different vibe (obviously), and in a lot of ways kinda like the matrix in reverse...but at the end of the day who knows if it's the matrix in reverse or just the matrix (i think one of the main themes is about how hard it is to tell, and that's never been truer than in today's world where you can type a couple sentences into some ai model owned by a literal nazi and get a hyper realistic video of whatever you want.) i forgot how campy this is. the camp is perfection. it's fucking weird and dorky and gross as heck. it's also sexy in a very hot and disgusting way. the leads are both lovely and lovely to look at. the writing is fun and fast paced and inventive. (wish they didn't have the strangely kinda racist restaurant scene.) the aesthetic is perfect. the supporting actors all rule as well. might be cronenberg's best film. i love the world this exists in. i love what it's commenting on. i love the themes and the directorial decisions. definitely going to watch this again. long live disgusting tooth guns.
