Uncut Gems (2019)why doesn't my butt look as good as this lunatic's girlfriend's? exquisitely stressful. like a total of two minutes and forty seconds total that allowed me anything close to a moment of peace. as much as i adored this (if that's the right word) i need a very, very long break before i consider watching it again. i'm not even an adam sandler fan (like not at all), but god damnnn someone give this man an award (did they already do that? i live under a rock, i'm sorry.) absolutely incredible acting all around. like not one moment of acting that was not 110% believable, and that's saying a lot considering the roles these people were asked to pull off. truly phenomenal. how was there absolutely so much noise and clutter and mess and chaos. truly astonishing and impressive vibe the safdie's pulled off here. holy crap. i'll also say this is one of the best portrayals of addiction i've seen presented on screen. like...very, very top notch portrayal. thank you so much for not making a mockery of addiction. incredible. i don't know how it will feel for other addicts to watch, but wow, it hit for me. ya, this just left me floored, i was covering my eyes, biting my knuckles, screaming "oh fuck no" and "holy shit" literally the entire movie. next time i might just stand the entire movie. why not? ok. i'm such a snooty bitch, but this would have been five stars if not for some glaring writing choices that slightly broke the illusion for me. a. i do not believe for one second that anyone in this man's life would have put up with his endless bullshit. and no, he is not "charismatic", lol. just no. like, i was able to suspend disbelief, but c'mon. b. you do not get to act like this and treat people this way and owe this many people this much money and carry around hundreds of thousands of dollars in new york city without carrying a gun. lol, but no. c. i cannot believe it was like an hour and forty five minutes before someone punched this sorry mother fucker in the face. d. those points aside, truly stunning concept and execution. kudos.
