O.J.: Made in America (2016)how is a series directed by a black man about a black man so abhorrently racist? and i'm not talking about racist sound bites the director chose to include for some unknown reason (and there are hundreds of them), i'm talking about the reality that this somehow has an actually anti-black, racist overall tone. it also manages to be insanely misogynistic, homophobic, and transphobic at the same time. grueling to watch. i bailed during the final episode when it was clear this was going to continue to be garbage with nothing super interesting to say at all. on top of that, giving these kkk cops air time to continually, repeatedly claim they are not racist...terrible editorial decision. absolutely horrific. more than anything this is edited to serve as a soapbox for racist white cops and psychopathic lawyers. the series gets it so, so wrong, as did basically the entire american public at the time (white folks and bipoc alike). there's a quote towards the end that is the only correct analysis..."i didn't see it as an example of african americans being free, or we beating the criminal justice system. not for african americans. it was a victory for a rich guy named o.j. simpson". and that's it. it shows that if you have money you can do whatever you want in this country EVEN if you are black. o.j. being acquitted was not somehow evidence of a system finally working properly for black folks, it was solely evidence that the system was working in the exact corrupt way it was designed to and always had...catering to the whims of the propertied class. watching this was sickening. nearly every single white person depicted is a horrifically racist loser. the heartbreaking part is that many of the black people depicted are also losers. the older black juror...infuriating to listen to...every single defense attorney is a literal psychopath, as are the majority of the cops depicted. i have absolutely no idea how this has garnered so much acclaim.
