a review of 新睡衣晚会大屠杀

the first hour is shockingly good. truly incredible writing. perfectly caricaturized acting. absolutely on point satire of the horror genre generally, feminism, toxic masculinity...all of it. excellent effects. great kills. almost five stars except for the bizarre choice to essentially not light many of the scenes. dark scenes looked like trash. and...like they *did* light the scenes they just chose to be incompetent at it? i know they have seen texas chainsaw massacre and i know they know that letting people actually see what's happening in the scene is an option. literally falls off a cliff at the hour mark. makes me really question the politics and motives of the writers and directors and *almost* makes a lot of the brilliant commentary from the first hour feel meaningless. if there was a way to just watch the first hour of this...i'd be all about it...but once you see an ending this bad, it just kinda ruins the film. three stars based entirely on the respect i have for the first hour. also a bummer that they went out of their way to make this so queer baitey and so ultimately straight.
