please do not take anything in this review the wrong way...this is absolutely essential viewing. in a very literal sense, you need to watch this (and you can watch it at this link...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLR3g6E2pZA). one of the more clear depictions i've seen of how "normal people" can morph into gleefully murderous fascist pieces of shit. (i do think anyone who is willing to contribute to fascism is absolutely a sociopath. i don't think truly "normal" people are nearly as vulnerable to fascist bullshit, but alas, i digress.) the collection of footage, the arrangement and editing of footage, the editorializing of the footage, for the most part all impeccable. i'm not sure it has any impact on the integrity of this work of art, and...it also feels important to name that this is essentially ussr propaganda. it's correct propaganda. it's propaganda i agree with. it's propaganda i'm glad exists. just...a very communist ussr-centric version of events. (and again for the record, i love excellent communist and anti-fascist propaganda.) there are also times where the tone delves a little too much into sing song playful mockery...(i don't think i've ever agreed with sally jane black more)...not in a way that's incorrect or undeserved, but in a way that at least once or twice made me forget i was looking at footage of some of the most brutal mass murderers and capitalist war profiteers (a.k.a. also brutal mass murderers...ahem microsoft...ahem google...ahem tesla...ahem instagram...basically too many current us companies to count) of all time. despite those sporadic moments where the tone missed for me, this was an exquisite work of art. a truly inspired way to illustrate and educate about the mechanisms by which fascism gains momentum and through which that momentum can also be ground to a halt (with conviction and action of millions of people working in concert). my mind overlaid current events through this entire film. for any of you reading this who are still in denial, we are absolutely in nazi america at this point, and we have been for quite a few years. for as disgusting as the nazis were, it's possible we will look back on the period of two thousand fifteen to two thousand thirty and it will be clear the americans were at least as complicit and vile as nazi germans. we are talking about nineteen thirty-five...many of these germans (to a point) had no reasonable idea the entirety of what they were supporting. with no exception, every single maga american nazi (and more than a few democratic fascists as well who have enabled and colluded with maga) knows -- or should know by this point -- the harm being done in the name of their greed, fear, and hatred. (please do not @ me in the comments with the "oh they are victims of a cult". at this point, that is clearly erroneous for the vast majority of maga nazis and is therefore harmful.) i'll end with commentary about how we defeat fascism. we defeat fascism when, and only when, millions of people are willing to literally make defeating fascism their life's work...their life's purpose. to defeat the fascists, you need an equally powerful actively anti-fascist (as in people working together to intentionally and literally _*destroy* fascism) resistance movement. millions of people must be willing and able to form an organized resistance that no matter the ultimate outcome will result in a large number of them losing their lives. there is no way to sugar coat this. anyway. watch this film. and fight the fuck back. fuck nazis.
