a review of 烈杀令

the first half of this is so strong it gets a heart and has some re-watch potential. the neo-western, thriller, action first half honestly works much better than the spiritual horror second half. some of the coolest use of signing in any film i can recall. essentially a really interesting and novel short story turned into a fifteen-minutes too long feature with some stylistic direction choices i maybe would prefer to see done differently (ex. definitely showing the monster too much). also, pretty unsatisfying conclusion and a tough pill to swallow. interesting choice to critique wanting revenge on your rapist. really cool though, and great acting.
