a review of 美式晚宴

sooo, this is sweet and cute at times, and at times the style is coming together in cohesive fashion. also, it's just insidious to have this loser-ass bigot "punk" being romanticized in a film like this. this dude is homophobic af, honestly seems racist af, and fell in love with someone he made fun of for being "slow". total piece of shit. reminds me of sean baker's red rocket a bit in the way it romanticizes a completely horrible man. i'd say this film has more heart, but is technically a much weaker film than red rocket though. also just hilarious try-hard portrayal of "punk" culture in this. whoever wrote it was like oh punks have sunken in eyes, short tempers, and swear in every sentence. oh, also, completely delusional portrayal of and commentary on prison. p.s. i'm not giving star ratings to anything under three point five anymore. your dad told me it's not nice.
