William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet (1996)

the romeo + juliet adaptation that best understands the only way to get what you want out of life (or death) is to regularly brandish a nine. omg paul rudd jump scare. for whatever it's worth, he is twenty six (looks forty) at the time of filming. leonardo is twenty one (looks sixteen). and our poor, innocent claire is sixteen. hollywood is so, so weird, y'all. more than anything, this is a weird little spectacle. i tried to watch this before, and got only as far as the gas station scene before deciding i wasn't brave enough to endure this alone. yet, my friend noraa was insistent this was a worthy pursuit, and she finally forced it upon me for her birthday. needless to say, it's glorious. kooky, over the top acting. visual spectacle. i think it keeps the right old timey vibes and modernizes a lot of stuff that makes sense. i personally love the editing. i think the whole thing works really well together to translate stage to screen. kinda kudos to everyone for these highly entertaining acting performances. would totally watch again. bring me more shakespeare, i guess? 🙂‍↕️
